At Building Bridges, we provide specialized pediatric physical therapy services to families throughout Northwest Missouri and the Northland area. Founded by two passionate physical therapists with a shared vision, we combine clinical excellence with a supportive community approach.
Building Bridges was born from a friendship that spans over 15 years. Stephanie Compton, PT (owner of Kids S.O.A.R., LLC) and Jenelle Hunnicutt, DPT (owner of Bright Home Solutions, LLC) first connected in Arizona, where they discovered their mutual passion for fitness, wellness, and the power of community support during adult Pilates classes.
Though life took them in different directions—Stephanie to Missouri in 2013 and Jenelle to Kansas in 2017—they believe divine guidance brought them back together to create something special. Today, they've united their expertise and shared philosophy to form Building Bridges, LLC.
What makes Building Bridges unique is our dual commitment to:
We believe in treating not just the individual child, but in strengthening the entire family unit through connection and community.
"Two are better than one, for if either of them falls, one can help the other up." — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
This biblical wisdom guides our practice daily. Just as Stephanie and Jenelle support each other in their professional journey, we're here to support your family on your child's development journey.

I have been a physical therapist for 24 years. In 1999, I graduated from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center with a Master of Physical Therapy degree. I absolutely love my job and feel very blessed to have worked with so many special kids and families throughout the years. My work experience has been in a variety of settings including schools, early intervention, out-patient clinics, aquatics, and hospitals. My prior experience as an adjunct professor teaching the pediatric courses for University of Saint Mary’s DPT program has given me a good understanding of development and the importance of education. I want to focus my developmental knowledge on educating parents on developmental sequence and skill acquisition while providing parents with the fun and practical tools to help their child meet their goals.
Currently, I am providing early intervention physical therapy services . Providing strategies that will help a child gain new skills in their home environment while making meaningful connections and relationships is very rewarding. I love fitness and wellness and have been teaching Pilates and early morning exercise classes for 15 years. I received my Pilates training from Power Pilates and group fitness instruction from AFAA. Most recently, I obtained my Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) Level B certification, to expand my manual handling skills to help children move and meet motor milestones. I am excited to have this clinic to connect other families and children together through small group classes. Creating a space to combine my passion for fitness and wellness with working with children with special needs has been a dream of mine. I am excited to serve children of all abilities in the Northland.
Smithville has been my home for the last 10 years. I enjoy time with my two girls, my husband, and my husband’s kids and grandchildren. My certified therapy dog, Mae, plans to join some classes. She loves working with kids too.
I am thrilled to serve the Northland community. I hold a Bioengineering degree from UC San Diego (late 1990s) and initially worked in the medical device field before taking time to raise my four children. When my youngest entered grade school, I pursued my passion for combining my knowledge of the human body with my dedication to helping others by earning my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from KU Medical School in 2020.
My diverse professional experience includes working in:
I firmly believe in developing strong relationships with families and children to foster development through play, and I enjoy collaboratively addressing challenges. With my background across various settings, I can effectively help families navigate IFSP/IEP processes.
I am passionate about working with children and find fulfillment in witnessing their growth in both skills and confidence, while providing families with the support needed to appreciate each child's unique qualities.
